Just before we went away to Edinburgh I treated myself to a new hat from Cherry on Top Millinery, a local crafter who hand makes all her vintage styled hats. Having long been admirers of her pieces and also as one of her stockists in our shop at GO4 Market Cafe, I decided it was high time I treat myself to one, and I found the perfect hat to go with my new birthday dress.
Forgetting that I had planned to do a blog post on this beautiful lopsided percher-cum-pill box hat I didn't get a proper picture of it when I wore the whole ensemble to The Witchery during our recent weekend away (gorgeous historic restaurant in Edinburgh with a wine list the size of the complete English dictionary). But the lovely SJR Phototography (aka my long suffering husband) did get a picture of me tottering down an alleyway on our way to the restaurant so you get an idea of the look I was going for with that hat and dress.
We have also just discovered this picture which the waiter in the Witchery kindly offered to take of us at the end of the meal, so you can see the hat/dress ensemble.... although the photo seems to have focussed on the wine glasses not us, so appropriately we look as fuzzy as we were no doubt feeling after the wine at this point in the evening.
I love this hat so much, although neither of these pictures really show it properly (or not at all, in the case of the first one) so you'll have to take my word for it, it is a beautiful hat.. or follow us on our Instagram and I will try and get a better shot of it soon. It has inspired me to build on my small (currently numbered at two) hat collection and start wearing them more. Head over to Cherry on Top Millinery's Facebook page and you'll see a few shots of more of her creations, you can also find a small selection in the shop and you'll find her at The Secret Vintage Fair on Saturday 29th November in Colchester.
