Vintage Bicycle Ride comes to Colchester

Last month at The Secret Vintage Fair there were some special bikes dotted abut the place, they made such as impression on us we borrowed them for our photo shoot recently.  Now you're wondering why I'm rambling about bikes but these were modern reproductions of a penny farthing!  And they were amazing and we loved them (nb- do not ride with heels, NOT advised!!!)

These bikes were provided by The Penny Farthing Experience in Colchester, but that is not all they are doing... come 29th August they are hosting Colchester's answer to Tour de France.... if Tour de France involved a sedate leisurely paced ride around the idyllic Essex countryside wearing your finest vintage threads stopping along the way for elevensies, lunch and tea, before finishing at a local wine vineyard! Pre-registration is now open here.

The Vintage Bicycle Ride Details:

The route is through Constable Country in 3 x 10 mile paced and escorted legs (10mph) meandering through Essex Villages and Suffolk countryside. Rural Lanes and back-roads.  They encourage vintage dress although it is not required. Whatever bike you own, modern, vintage. whatever you want..... this is a quintessentially British ride in the countryside visiting some mini-events en-route to the final Festival at The Vineyard. (Bike hire is also available.)  Meeting at Colchester Train Station with staggered starts from 09:00hrs. Finishing off at the fabulous Cider & Wine Festival at Dedham Vale Vineyard, with wine, music, entertainment and onsite camping. Ride Tickets will be £25 (incl. Festival Entry) Festival Only Tickets are also be available for friends.

Sounds perfect- we are so lucky to live in such a fantastic town with so much going on!
